Hermon, ME – Wyatt Alexander had a packed weekend behind the wheel of his 96 K&B Automotive Super Late Model. After an adversity filled start to his season, Alexander put his desire and drive to the test this past weekend as raced at both Wiscasset Speedway and Speedway 95. 100 miles between the two tracks meant a lot of preparation ahead of time for the race team.
“I’m really thankful for my team’s hard work all week leading up to this and then to execute it over the weekend,” Wyatt said after the races, “We had a goal to finish both races and that’s just what we did, it was definitely a great experience for me and we continue to improve.”
Racing the weekly Pro Stock division at Wiscasset Speedway on Saturday night, Wyatt managed to hold on for a fifth place finish after leading early. Wyatt surrendered the lead when the handling went away on his 96 machine, only to find out after the race that the track bar mount on the car had broken. Luckily overnight, the team was able to repair the mount and get the car back together for Sunday’s big event.
The team traveled to Speedway 95 for their second Pro All Stars Series North event of the season, the “Hight Chevrolet 150.” After running quick laps in practice, Wyatt drew the pole position for the second heat race to determine the starting lineup. Wyatt’s car would not react well to the new tires though, and he slipped through the field to a seventh place finish, giving him the 20th starting spot in the 150 feature event. Throughout the race, Wyatt drove to the pace the car had, and while initially falling a lap down during the race, he got the lap back through avoiding a wreck off turn four with just 20 laps remaining in the event and getting the “Lucky Dog” under the caution flag. Wyatt drove to a 16th place finish, a solid effort in the first time the young 15 year old had completed all 150 laps in a PASS North event.
Wyatt will now get a week off before his race at Wiscasset Speedway on June 27th. Wyatt currently sits in the fourth spot in the points standings, and is looking to improve on that and look for his first victory in the Super Late Model ranks. We hope to see you there on Saturday, June 27th at 6:00PM when the green flag drops!
